A design team consisting of Benthem Crouwel Architects, traffic and cost
specialists of Tyréns engineers and landscape architects Mandaworks, both of
Malmö, Sweden, have presented their vision on the urban redevelopment of the central
station’s area of Lund City, Sweden.
As rail travel will likely be tripling at
this fourth largest rail hub of the country, the municipality commissioned
three teams of designers to come up with ideas to develop not only the
station’s direct vicinity, but also the adjacent urban fabric.
The urban redevelopment scheme consists of a new travel centre, an upgraded western entrance, additional public transport stops for busses, coaches and trams, supplements and alterations to the existing public realm and building structures, a re-vitalization of Bjeredspark as well as a new conference centre, just off Clemenstorget Square, the new main address of Lund Central Station.
A public exhibition of the designs will take place this autumn, with the venue yet to be determined.
